Job Description

Summary

This job involves gathering, cleaning, and studying data to spot patterns and trends that help the police department make better decisions, then sharing those insights through charts, reports, and clear explanations.

It's a behind-the-scenes role with no team supervision, working mostly evenings after training.

A good fit would be someone detail-oriented with a college degree who enjoys numbers and can explain complex info simply, especially if they've worked in law enforcement or handled sensitive data before.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Pass Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain eligibility (no felony convictions, certain misdemeanors, open arrests, or family violence convictions)

  • Experience in data collection, cleaning, analysis, and visualization
  • Knowledge of statistical methods and data modeling techniques
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Full Job Description

Under direction, interprets data to help organizations make informed decisions. Collects, processes, analyzes, and presents data in a concise format for presentation. Exercises no supervision.

Work Location
Public Safety Headquarters - 315 S. Santa Rosa Street, San Antonio, TX (78207)

Work Hours
Training will be 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. Upon completion of training, work schedule will be 2:45 p.m. - 11:30 p.m., Sunday - Thursday.

Requirements

  • Collects, cleans, and analyzes data from various sources to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Assists with data analysis to help identify patterns, trends, and anomalies.
  • Applies statistical methods and data modeling techniques to interpret data and make predictions.
  • Maintains databases and data collection systems for optimal data quality and efficiency.
  • Assists in creating visualizations and dashboards to present findings.
  • Communicates complex data insights in a clear and understandable manner to non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and deliver relevant data-driven solutions.
  • Follows data privacy and security compliance in all data handling and processing activities.
  • Stays updated with the latest data analysis tools, techniques, and industry trends for continuous improvement.
  • Optimizes and automates data analysis processes where possible to enhance efficiency.
  • May assist in the preparation of written reports, summaries, and presentations.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.

    Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience working in a law enforcement agency.
    • Experience working with Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR)/National Incident-Based Reporting Systems (NIBRS).
    • Experience managing multiple priorities and conflicting deadlines.
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Excellent communication skills and attention to details.

    Applicant Information

    Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job.

    One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months.

    One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
