Requirements
The Facilities Services work unit exists to plan, design, construct, operate, maintain and manage the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind (CSDB) facilities and campus according to all applicable standards in a manner that promotes a safe, sanitary and effective environment for students and staff and enhances the quality of life in CSDB facilities and on campus. The facilities managed by the Facilities Services work unit include 34 acres of land and 17 buildings comprised of 296,484 square feet.
WORK SCHEDULE
This position works 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, Monday through Friday during the school year, and 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM during summer and winter breaks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains building cleanliness and sanitary standards, including cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping floors and stairways, and emptying trash receptacles.
- Performs spot cleaning of walls, doors, glass, windows, and flooring; provides slip protection and appropriate signage for wet floors.
- Replenishes supplies in bathroom and shower facilities; cleans whiteboards and blackboards; empties pencil sharpeners; and cleans drinking fountains.
- Utilizes Universal Precautions and established sanitation procedures when handling and cleaning bodily fluids.
- Completes all required safety and assigned training in a timely manner.
- Performs deep cleaning tasks, including shampooing carpets and upholstery, refinishing wood floors, stripping and waxing floors, scrubbing non-wax floors, and cleaning air vents and light fixtures (primarily during summer, but may occur during the school year as needed).
- Conducts routine building checks, including securing doors and windows to ensure safety of students and staff.
- Inspects assigned areas, identifies maintenance issues, and reports or resolves them when appropriate.
- Ensures all interior lighting is turned off at the end of each shift.
- Assists with exterior cleaning and maintains trash receptacles within 25 feet of the building.
- Reviews email, service requests, and the master calendar daily for assignments, setups, and special instructions.
- As an essential employee, reports early as required to remove snow and ice from walkways and entryways using appropriate equipment; applies salt or sand to maintain safe conditions.
- May be required to work overtime for school functions, special events, or emergency situations.
- Performs duties in varying environmental and weather conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience Only:Six (6) months of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Knowledge of bloodborne pathogens, body fluid cleanup procedures, PPE use, isolation protocols, and proper disposal methods.
- Six (6) months of experience maintaining various types of flooring surfaces.
Special Qualifications- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at the NOVICE level, or the ability and willingness to attain this level within a specified timeframe in accordance with school policy and assessed through an approved evaluation tool.
- Demonstrates a courteous, professional, and service-oriented approach as a representative of CSDB.
- Ability to respond effectively to feedback, work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment, and demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force and perform heavy lifting in accordance with established safety practices.
- Knowledge of and ability to utilize technology to perform job duties, including use of common computer applications such as email, internet, word processing, spreadsheets, calendars, and databases; willingness to develop skills as needed.
