Division of Facilities Management - North District


The Division of Facilities Management (DFM) is a customer-driven support organization responsible for operating, maintaining and managing the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) facilities and campuses according to all applicable standards. This is done in a manner that promotes the CDHS mission of providing a safe, sanitary and effective environment for clients, youth, residents, patients, consumers and staff and enhances the quality of life in CDHS facilities, campuses and in the surrounding neighborhoods. These services include the day-to-day facility maintenance and operational needs of buildings, grounds, custodial and fleet services.

North District services the following facilities:


  • Colorado Mental Health Hospital at Fort Logan (CMHHFL)

  • Wheat Ridge Regional Center to include 20 Group Homes

  • Gilliam Youth Services Center

  • Lookout Mountain Youth Services Center (Aspire, Golden Peak, and Summit YSCs)

  • Marvin W. Foote Youth Services Center

  • Mount View Youth Services Center

  • Platte Valley Youth Services Center

  • Prairie Vista Youth Services Center

Requirements

This position performs Housekeeping and Custodial services to assure that the facilities and client environments are cleaned and maintained according to all applicable regulatory standards, and provides a safe sanitary environment for clients and staff.

Meet the facilities needs of the Department of Human Services Northern Region customers while managing available resources to provide a physical environment at the highest quality possible.

Additionally, the unit establishes and maintains a pleasant, safe, and sanitary environment for clients, personnel and visitors in the buildings of the Department of Human Services.

This position is unique in that it provides Custodial Services for a wide range of agencies within the Department of Human Services which includes the Colorado Mental Health Hospital at Fort Logan (CMHHFL), Wheat Ridge Regional Center (WRRC to include the group homes) and the Division of Youth Services (DYS) facilities (Prairie Vista, Gilliam, Lookout Mountain Campus, Marvin W.

Foote, Mount View Campus and Platte Valley.)

The position is required to meet and maintain all regulatory requirements set by JCAHO. (Joint Commission for Accrediting Health Organizations) and the Colorado Department of Public Health and other regulatory agencies.

What You’ll Be Doing:


    • Performs daily cleaning, sanitizing, and servicing of assigned work area as per schedules and procedures by use of appropriate disinfectant cleaners, chemicals and equipment consisting of sweeping, dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, restroom cleaning, and other duties as assigned.

    • Performs daily detail cleaning of assigned area as per schedules and procedures by use of appropriate disinfectant cleaners, chemicals and equipment – consisting of washing walls, doors, frames, sills, windows, baseboards, fixtures, furnishings, ceilings, vents, and light fixtures.

    • Performs weekly project work within all areas including all hard floor and carpet areas.

    • Performs project floor work consisting of buffing, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and sealing of hard floor surfaces, and spot cleaning, shampooing and extracting of carpeted floors by use of appropriate cleaning chemicals and equipment.

    • Collects and disposes of trash and biohazard waste by properly containing and transporting to proper disposal locations.

    • The removal of desks, chairs etc., to conduct project floor work in all areas on a weekly basis. Participates in moving of furniture, appliances, equipment, supplies, etc.

      manually and by use of moving equipment. Cleans and services equipment, maintains janitorial closet, supplies, stock levels, and chemical labeling requirements.

    • Snow removal.

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Positions.

Positions that perform essential law enforcement, highway maintenance, and other support services directly necessary for the health, safety, and welfare of patients, residents, and inmates of state institutions or state facilities.

Employees in essential positions can be only FLSA non-exempt and can be required to work unexpected or unusual work hours to perform the essential and/or emergency services of the department without delay and/or without interruption.

Call Back applies when an eligible employee is required to report to work before the start or after the end of a scheduled shift.

If there is no release from work between the call back hours and regular shift, it is considered a continuation of the shift and call back does not apply.

When call back applies, a minimum of two (2) hours of the employee’s regular base pay is guaranteed.

Eligible employees are those who are eligible for overtime, and any call back time is counted as work time.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Applicants must have at least three months of full-time cleaning experience. This experience must be listed in the work experience section of your application in order to meet the minimum qualifications and move forward in the selection process.

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies:


    • Experience cleaning and maintaining facilities such as schools, colleges, hospitals, long-term care facilities, mental health institutes or correctional institutions.

    • Experience sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, as well as performing general dusting and vacuuming within schools, colleges, hospitals, long-term care facilities, mental health institutes or correctional institutions.

    • Relevant years of state service experience

Conditions of Employment:


A full pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process as this position is deemed to have direct contact with vulnerable persons.

Felony convictions, conviction of crimes of moral turpitude, or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from being considered for this position.

Should your background check reveal any charges or convictions, it is your responsibility to provide the CDHS Background Unit with an official disposition of any charges.

  • This position requires State of Colorado residency at the time of application and residency within the state throughout the duration of employment in this position.

  • Must be willing to submit and pass a full background check.

  • Must be willing to submit and pass Motor Vehicle Checks.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid non-restricted Colorado driver’s license throughout employment in this position.

    • Out-of-State Driver’s License holders must obtain a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License within 30 days of employment start date.

  • Travel – This position will be required to drive State Vehicles as part of their work assignment equipped with supplies to perform daily duties. Travel to training and meetings.

  • Must be willing to receive an annual influenza vaccination or provide a document for a medical exemption or a letter for religious exemption.

  • Must successfully pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test.

  • May be required to work various hours for coverage, weather related issues and essential/emergency services outside of normal business hours.

  • May be required to respond to after hours call back to perform essential and/or emergency services without delay and/or without interruption.

  • Use, Handling, or Exposure to hazardous materials – Explain: Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals

  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must:


      • Disclose that information on the application.

      • Explain why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify you from the current position. 3. Provide your employee number from your prior State employment.

        Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination and failure to provide this information will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.


      Selection Process:

      Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
