Job Description

Summary

This job is for a custodian at a state-run veterans' nursing home in Colorado, where you'll handle everyday cleaning tasks like mopping, dusting, and sanitizing rooms to keep the facility safe and comfortable for residents.

You'll also do deeper cleaning after residents move out, maintain floors and equipment, and move items as needed while respecting residents' preferences.

Requirements

This is a full-time, in-person, essential services-designated position. Hours are 6:30 am - 3:00 pm

Primary Job Duties Include:

Daily Cleaning
  • Perform daily cleaning, e.g. mopping, dusting, trash removal, sanitizing etc. per Facility needs and assignment.
  • Service assigned work area per schedule and facility procedures by utilizing approved disinfectants, cleaners, associated chemicals and equipment.
  • Procedures to include the established “7-step” Program, e.g. routine, detail clean, splash and trash, etc.
  • Know and follow Universal Precautions and all established Facility safety standards.
  • Make beds, change linens as needed, stock linen carts.
  • Ensure resident preferences are honored as much as possible.
Detail Cleaning of Rooms
  • Upon the move, discharge, death of a resident, or scheduled assignment perform detail cleaning, sanitizing, and servicing of assigned work area per procedures in use at Facility by utilizing approved disinfectants, cleaners, associated chemicals and equipment.
  • Procedures to consist of the established “7-step” Program” detail clean.
  • Know and follow Universal Precautions and all established Facility safety standards.
Floor Service

Performs project floor work consisting of scrubbing, stripping, waxing, sealing, buffing, burnishing etc. of appropriate floor surfaces.

In addition, perform spot cleaning, shampooing, extracting and bonnet cleaning of carpeted floors by use of appropriate cleaning chemicals and equipment established and provided by Facility.

  • Know and follow Universal Precautions and all established Facility safety standards
  • Equipment Maintenance and Supplies
    • Clean and service equipment, maintain assigned housekeeping closets and carts, supplies, stock levels, and chemical labeling requirements.
    • Follow all established facility safety standards.
    Move furnishings and minimal maintenance
    • Move furniture, appliances, equipment, supplies, etc., manually and by use of available equipment.
    • Replace light bulbs, assist with minor building repairs and snow removal.
    • Follow all established facility safety standards.
    Laundry
    • Handle, sort, load, unload, fold, assign, hang, iron, repair, mend, stock, label and distribute residents’ laundry and facility linens in a timely manner.
    • Use approved disinfectants, cleaners, detergents, bleaching agents, soft/sour agents, spotters and associated chemicals.
    • Know and use Universal Precautions and follow proper procedures for laundry equipment.
    • Complete laundry related documentation.
    • Follow all established facility safety standards.
    Training and other duties as assigned
    • Attends in-services and training as assigned.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Previous custodial experience in a long-term care or hospital facility preferred.

    • Previous experience in commercial laundry processing

    • Paying attention to detail, strong time management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.

    • Working in a team environment to complete daily workloads and provide support when necessary outside of assigned areas.

    • Excellent customer service skills to include communication with and responding to all levels of employees.

    • Applicant must be willing and able to meet the physical demands of the position as follows: Exert up to up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

      • Motor Vehicle Check , if the employee will drive a state-owned vehicle, either in an on-going capacity while performing their normal day-to-day job duties OR on occasion for training/meetings/client visits/etc.

      • Must possess a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License or an non-restricted U.S. Driver's License for positions within 30 miles of the CO state border

      • Out-of-State Driver’s License holders must obtain a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License within 30 days of employment start date.

      • Other Conditions of Employment specific to Program

      • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must:


      1. Disclose that information on the application.

      2. Explain why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify you from the current position.

      3. Provide your employee number from your prior State employment. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination and failure to provide this information will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.

    • CDHS Selection Process ExplanationEmployment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
