Requirements

Job Summary:
This position serves as a Custodial Work Leader, responsible for overseeing and guiding custodial staff while performing a full range of cleaning and maintenance tasks. The role ensures facilities on the Auraria Campus are clean, safe, and well-maintained for students, staff, faculty, and visitors. Duties include leading and monitoring custodial work, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors, cleaning and disinfecting restrooms, restocking supplies, and timely removal of waste and recyclables. Additional responsibilities include snow removal and ice abatement as needed.

Essential Job Functions:
The pay rate listed is $21.63 per hour, which includes a 7.5% shift differential or $1.51 per hour for swing shift hours worked. The pay rate for this position without the 7.5% shift differential is $20.12 per hour.
Leadership and Oversight:
  • Lead and monitor Custodian I staff, assigning tasks and inspecting work for quality and timeliness.
  • Provide initial supervision and escalate performance issues as needed.
  • Plan and approve leave, schedule staff for routine and special projects, and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Conduct on-the-job training and ensure compliance with safety practices, chemical usage, and equipment operation.
  • Communicate policies, procedures, and updates; hold regular staff meetings.
Custodial Operations:
  • Clean and maintain interior and exterior campus facilities, including restrooms, offices, public areas, stairwells, elevators, and entryways.
  • Perform waste removal, recycling, and composting; restock supplies.
  • Execute floor care (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, stripping, polishing) and window cleaning.
  • Remove graffiti and maintain building security by locking doors and reporting hazards.
Special Projects & Emergency Response:
  • Coordinate and assist with non-routine cleaning and maintenance projects.
  • Move and set up furniture and equipment for events or projects.
  • Respond to emergencies such as water extraction, and upholstery cleaning.
  • Clear snow and ice from sidewalks, ramps, and stairs to maintain safe access. Apply de-icer as needed to ensure entrances remain open and hazard-free.
Equipment & Supply Management:
  • Safely transport and maintain custodial equipment; report repairs as needed.
  • Keep workstations stocked and adhere to chemical storage and disposal procedures.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • One (1) year of full-time custodial or laundry experience in a professional work setting.
  • One (1) year of full-time experience performing comprehensive floor care, including stripping, scrubbing, and finishing hard surfaces, as well as carpet extraction and maintenance.
  • Valid unencumbered Colorado drivers license.
Conditions of Employment:
  • The person selected for this position must maintain their ability to stand for long periods of time as well as kneel, stoop, crouch, reach and grab in the performance of job-related duties.
  • This person selected for this position must maintain their ability to perform the physical demands of this position which include physical manipulating and moving furniture and supplies in excess of 100 lbs. on a frequent basis as well as 20 lbs. to 50 lbs. (occasionally).
  • Must be willing and able to withstand exposure to dust and fumes associated with cleaning agents and custodial work.
  • Must be willing and able to be exposed to adverse weather while performing snow removal duties in front of building entry/exit ways (as needed).
  • Must maintain a valid unencumbered drivers license.
  • Please note that if offered employment, candidates will be required to furnish a copy of the motor vehicle report (MVR) as part of the background check process.
