This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, 130 SC-252, Anderson, SC 29621.
As the Custodial Worker, you will work under limited supervision and perform a variety of tasks to achieve a neat, orderly and sanitary environment in a designated area of Harris Psychiatric Hospital. You will also supervise Custodial Workers on an as needed basis.
Responsibilities for the Custodial Worker/Building/Grounds Specialist II:- Provide floor cleaning and maintenance services, including mopping, sweeping, and vacuuming. Responsible for stripping, waxing, and buffing floors which includes operating heavy floor care equipment.
- Clean and sanitize bathroom facilities, including fixtures, floors and walls. Replenish supply of paper products and soap for all bathrooms.
- Clean patient rooms and living areas, including care of beds, furniture and upholstery.
- Empty trash cans in patient units, office areas and common areas. Transport trash to waste compactor according to established procedures.
- Responsible for training new employees on proper cleaning procedures, proper floor care and maintenance. Retrain existing employees yearly. Supervise crew on weekend shifts. Inspect facility to ensure that building is sanitary and clean.
- Clean windows and glass doors. Adjusts draperies and curtains; spot clean window treatments as needed.
- Move office furniture and patient furniture when necessary for cleaning tasks.
Requirements
Additional Requirements- Must have the ability to frequently bend, stoop, push, pull, lift heavy objects (50 pounds or more); pushing and pulling cleaning carts and floor care equipment; and have manual dexterity.
Qualifications
- Considerable general housekeeping techniques and use of related equipment and supplies.
- Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
Additional Information
Supervision is general in nature and does require the ability to make good decisions based upon well-defined guidelines. In the absence of the EVS Supervisor and Director, may be assigned as lead custodial worker, providing direction to other team members to meet facility needs.
