Job Description

Summary

This role involves acting as a lawyer for the state's child support services, preparing and handling court cases to help families secure financial support for children, and working with courts and clients in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina.

A good fit would be someone with legal experience who cares about protecting vulnerable families and is comfortable in courtroom settings.

The job also includes occasional emergency response duties and requires strong communication skills.

Job Duties:
  • The Child Support Services County Attorney III is responsible for the preparation of Child Support Cases for Family Court; performance of activities in Court; the follow-up on these cases, including parent locate and processing of interstate cases; and is responsible for providing general child support services to clients as required or needed.

  • Represents out-of-state petitioners in reciprocal support suits and monitors outgoing UIFSA cases.

  • Negotiates complex settlement of Child Support cases with opposing counsel.

  • Prepares and monitors pleadings and preparation of cases for judicial hearings.

  • Responsible for trial of cases and appearance at Court or other judicial hearings.

  • Assists in coordinating at county level interrelationship between CSSD and Family Court personnel.

  • Handles appeals resulting from child support cases.

  • Performs job delivery and/or performance with positive or appropriate customer service delivery to clients, the public, and co-workers as an integral requirement.

  • Will be required to perform Red Cross shelter/emergency response duties as directed.

  • Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

A Juris Doctor Degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school and experience as a practicing attorney.

Necessary Special Requirement: Must be a mem
ber of the SC BAR.

Experience as a DSS Attorney preferred.
