Requirements

The Caseworker 2, under the general supervision of the Casework Supervisor, Department of Human Services (DHS), Office of Children, Youth and Family Services (OCYF), is responsible for working with a family from the point that they are referred to DHS/OCYF until the family is no longer involved with the agency. The incumbent completes a training curriculum and is aware of and works to complement and further the mission of DHS/OCYF.

Other duties include:
  • Investigative Duties:
    • Receives reports of suspected child abuse and/or neglect that are made to DHS/OCYF.
    • Initiates and completes investigations of the reports by conducting interviews, home visits, field visits, contacts with collateral sources, and reviews of any available records.
    • Determines within 60 days whether a family is accepted for services with DHS/OCYF in accordance with relevant agency policy and state regulations.
    • Cooperates with Child Protective Services Caseworkers on the investigation of Child Abuse Reports/Childline Reports in the instance of new allegations of abuse on an open case.
  • Conferencing and Teaming:
    • Initiates the Conferencing and Teaming Process if a family is accepted for services. Reviews record, prepares the family, and completes the Family Advocacy Support Tool. Builds a functional Team, facilitates the Family Conference, and conducts Team Meetings.
    • Applies a Strength Based Model to engage clients and the Team in the planning process.
    • Captures the required assessment information using the Risk Assessment Model.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 1-hour lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 2 days per week after 6 months of employment.

    In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved?location inside Pennsylvania.

    If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Six months of experience as a County Caseworker 1; or
  • Successful completion of the County Social Casework Intern program; or
  • A bachelor's degree with a social welfare major; or
  • A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of professional social casework experience in a public or private social service agency; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
