Summary

This job involves supporting people with mental health needs who are in jail, helping them access services while incarcerated and smoothly transition back to the community to reduce the chances of returning to prison.

You'll collaborate with prison staff, courts, probation officers, and community programs to ensure ongoing care for these individuals.

It's ideal for someone with a background in social work or related fields who is passionate about helping vulnerable people and preventing crime recurrence.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social welfare or related field, or equivalent combination of 12 college credits in sociology, psychology, criminal justice, or similar social sciences plus one year of professional social casework experience
  • Six months experience as a County Caseworker 1, or completion of County Social Casework Intern program
  • Ability to perform essential job functions, including working with incarcerated individuals and community partners
  • Full-time schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-4:30 PM (Thursdays 12:30 PM-9:00 PM), no telework option
  • Submission of criminal history reports and passing a drug screening as conditions of employment
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived

Requirements

This professional social service position is assigned to the Forensic Mental Health Services Unit of the Lycoming-Clinton MH/ID Program. This position is responsible for developing case management services for individuals with identified significant mental health and/or behavioral health needs. This position is designed to facilitate available services while individuals are incarcerated, and work as a boundary spanner for individuals eligible for release into the community. This position will work closely with the individual; Joinder Psychological Services Associate; Lycoming County Prison staff; the Lycoming County Court, including Probation and Pretrial Services; and other community-based services allowing continuity of care for individuals throughout their incarceration and release back into the community with the express purpose of lowering recidivism rates within the designated population. Supervision of this position will be provided by the Lycoming-Clinton MH/ID Program and the Forensic Mental Health Services Unit Supervisor.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
    • Thursday work hours are 12:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Six months of experience as a County Caseworker 1; or
  • Successful completion of the County Social Casework Intern program; or
  • A bachelor's degree with a social welfare major; or
  • A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of professional social casework experience in a public or private social service agency; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
