Summary

This job involves investigating reports of child abuse or neglect, meeting with children and families to ensure their safety, and providing support to help them improve emotionally and behaviorally.

Requirements

Caseworkers provide an effort to facilitate growth, behavioral and emotional improvements to individuals and their families, and to maintain current and accurate documentation and records of clients and services. Caseworkers receive reports of suspected abuse and/or neglect of children within the county. The Caseworker will meet with the children and caregivers and talk with anyone who can help determine if the child(ren) are safe. Caseworkers recommend seeing a doctor if children are injured. The most important aspect of this position is to be able to help a child, one who may not have the skills, knowledge, or ability to help themselves.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
    • Caseworkers may be required to work irregular hours depending on child/family availability.
    • On-call is required.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
