Job Duties:

  • The County Attorney I provides professional legal services and representation for assigned county offices, area adoption offices, and regional Day Care licensing office, including representation in Family Court on issues relative to child protection, foster care, adoption, adult protection and Economic Services.

  • Works alongside a supervising attorney for one year; drafting pleadings, interviewing witnesses, conducting probable cause hearings and/or other uncontested hearings, and assisting in the trial of complex and routine cases.

  • Utilizes or ensures the utilization of the Legal Case Management System for legal operations and documentation of legal activity in cases.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

  • Attends staffing meetings, interdisciplinary meetings, trainings, and other learning opportunities associated with child welfare and adult protective services.

  • Gathers and analyzes data as it relates to the management of child welfare caseloads, and as it implements best practices which result in safety, permanency, and well-being for all children. All of the work of the Attorney will be supervised by the managing attorney in the county or circuit.

  • Ensures that personal identifying information (PII) is properly used, accessed, gathered, shared, and disposed. Protects the agency networks and applications by safeguarding systems, equipment, and data.

Requirements

A Juris Doctor Degree from an ABA accredited law school

Necessary Special Requirement: Must be a member of the SC BAR.
