Summary

The Department of Corrections is seeking an energetic Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor to join our technical education team.

In this vital role, you will deliver on-the-job training and hands-on instruction for the vocational training of inmates who are interested in the refrigeration trade at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Albion.

Requirements

In this position, you will oversee and instruct inmates in a structured training program focused on the refrigeration mechanical trade. This includes teaching standard practices, methods, and procedures for the installation, repair, inspection, and maintenance of refrigeration and air conditioning systems and related equipment. You will deliver classroom training using a relevant curriculum, maintain order and discipline among inmates during both work and instructional periods, and document all training progress, attendance, and assignment details. Additional responsibilities include overseeing inmate work crews to complete refrigeration work orders, planning and assigning daily schedules, and inspecting finished work assignments.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40-hour work week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,868.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Five years of experience in the repair and servicing of refrigeration systems or air conditioning systems; or
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade.


Special Requirement:

  • This position requires the possession of an active Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate issued by an approved provider.


Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
