This job involves teaching inmates at a Pennsylvania prison how to safely operate heavy construction equipment like backhoes, excavators, and loaders for tasks such as building projects, road repairs, and grounds maintenance.
You'll supervise work crews, assign jobs, and evaluate their progress to help them gain practical skills for life after release.
It's ideal for someone with hands-on experience in heavy equipment who is patient, motivated, and enjoys mentoring others in a structured environment.

As a Corrections Construction Equipment Operator Instructor, you will oversee tasks and projects that use heavy equipment for construction and excavation assignments.
You will instruct inmates to use backhoes and tractors, front end loaders, excavators, track loaders, and forklifts as well as power chain saws, farm tractors with mowers, and bushhog attachments.
You will also assign a wide variety of excavation projects, new construction projects, groundskeeping, and road maintenance and repairs.
This role requires determining the most efficient means to complete assignments and the ability to ensure inmate work crews learn the foundations of construction, excavation, and heavy equipment basics.
In addition, you will complete progress evaluations, observe inmate workers in the proper operation of equipment, and supervise inmates performing snow removal, tree removal, storm drainage repairs, and trenching for steam and water lines.
