Requirements

As a Corrections Construction Equipment Operator Instructor, you will oversee tasks and projects that use heavy equipment for construction and excavation assignments.

You will instruct inmates to use backhoes and tractors, front end loaders, excavators, track loaders, and forklifts as well as power chain saws, farm tractors with mowers, and bushhog attachments.

You will also assign a wide variety of excavation projects, new construction projects, groundskeeping, and road maintenance and repairs.

This role requires determining the most efficient means to complete assignments and the ability to ensure inmate work crews learn the foundations of construction, excavation, and heavy equipment basics.

In addition, you will complete progress evaluations, observe inmate workers in the proper operation of equipment, and supervise inmates performing snow removal, tree removal, storm drainage repairs, and trenching for steam and water lines.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,868.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the operation of heavy equipment; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training which includes one year of journeyman level work.

Special Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.


Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
