Requirements

As the manager of the Corrections & Refunds unit, you will bring a human centered approach to a team environment as you manage record corrections, updates, and refunds for our Driver and Vehicle Records program.

In this role, you will serve an 18-person team who are tasked with protecting the accuracy and integrity of driver and vehicle records for the residents of Washington State.

Your day-to-day duties could include workload management and support, resource allocation, process improvement, and developing policies and practices related to program changes. Your formal writing ability will be crucial in drafting official correspondence, justifications, briefs, and other official forms of communication. As part of the Driver and Vehicle Records management team, you will understand priorities and communicate effectively in high stress situations. You will serve those around you by using your leadership skills to explain and document the “why” behind your actions and decisions. You will push yourself at a pace that challenges you mentally and emotionally. Your ability to help others be the best version of themselves will be the key to your success.

Some of what you will do:

  • Manage team performance, culture, and morale in a dynamic work environment.
  • Support, coach, direct, and train the unit supervisors.
  • Track and analyze unit statistics to identify workload trends.
  • Participate in projects and work groups to identify, reduce, and eliminate barriers to customer access of unit services.
  • Review and engage in process improvement efforts.
  • Review and analyze new state statutes, federal regulations, and rules.

Qualifications

What you will bring:

Eight (8) years of experience in a management, administrative, or technical role supporting programs that regulate or license individuals or businesses or ensure compliance with regulations.
Up to four (4) years of relevant education may substitute year for year for experience.

Experience must include:

  • Four (4) years of supervisory experience.

  • One (1) year of experience managing or navigating teams through organizational change.

  • One (1) year of experience researching, analyzing, and making recommendations on policies, procedures, laws, rules, or other written documentation related to business operations.

  • One (1) year of experience writing formal documents which could include reports, essays, opinions, briefs, arguments, justifications, recommendations, and any other forms of official written communication.
  • One (1) year of experience using Microsoft Suite office products including Excel, Word, One Note, Outlook, and Teams.

  • Six (6) months of experience working directly with business partners, individuals, and other interest groups responding appropriately to their questions or concerns.

  • The ability to:

What may help set you apart:
  • Additional higher-level education in business management, public administration, politics, economics, or a closely allied field.
  • Knowledge of Driver and Vehicle licensing and ability to interpret and explain complex licensing laws, rules, policies, procedures, or applications including local, state, or federal regulations.
  • Ability to understand and navigate the DRIVES licensing system and read and interpret driver or vehicle records.
