The Department of Corrections is seeking 2 (two) highly motivated and qualified individuals for the position of Correctional Records Technician (CRT) at Airway Heights Corrections Center.
Airway Heights Corrections Center is a 2000+ bed incarcerated individual facility located approximately 10 miles west of Spokane. The prison consists of a main facility that houses medium- and long-term minimum-custody incarcerated individuals. A separate perimeter adjacent to the main facility accommodates a minimum-security unit for incarcerated individuals with minimum-custody or lower.

Requirements

As a custodian of incarcerated individual (I/I) records, the Correctional Records Technician (CRT) enters, verifies, and ensures I/I sentence structure information is in compliance with appropriate laws and agency policy. The CRT processes, verifies and maintains I/I sentence structure and criminal history record information provided by criminal justice agencies within the offender management database system (OMNI) in a collaborative effort to improve public safety.
  • Ensures the contents of I/I records are legal, accurate, and maintained in a secure setting.
  • Utilize, update, and maintain data bases and programs containing information that is relative to I/I sentence.
  • Establish and validate agency jurisdiction of offenders.
  • Review and verify accuracy of legal documents relating to convictions and sentencing.
  • Verify electronic database information against source documents and resolve problems that relate to the I/I sentencing.
  • Verify identification of I/I to law enforcement through pictures, fingerprints, and other physical data.
  • Respond to requests for public disclosure in compliance with federal and state public disclosure laws.
  • Testify in court as an expert witness regarding the validity of I/I records and identity.
  • Provide direct support to the Correctional Records Supervisor and caseload carrying staff.
  • Correspond with appropriate court or other legal staff to resolve sentence discrepancies or other issues related to the structure of the offender sentence.
  • Complete appropriate I/I records paperwork affecting custody and release as required and within established timeframes.
  • Enter information into the Department's electronic offender database.
  • Archive I/I records according to established procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information protected by agency policy or federal or state laws.
  • Fingerprints I/I when they receive a new sentence or as needed. Fingerprints staff as needed or upon request.
  • Back up for taking I/I photos and creating I/I signature ID's.
  • Pursue apprehension and prosecutions of escapes on unexpired felony warrants.
  • Requires independent decision making to interpret laws.
  • Demonstrate skills to write clearly, factually, and concisely.
  • Investigates and responds to level 1 & 2 grievances.
  • Back up for CRS as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must respect and maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, the public, and/or criminal justice agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems under highly stressful or adverse situations.
  • Utilizes computer based applications in the performance of job duties.
  • Obtain certification in ACCESS within six (6) months of appointment to position and maintain current certification.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
  • Two (2) years' experience maintaining or processing I/I files such as legal files, property files, grievance files, administrative files, medical files, parole files, or counselor or custody files in a governmental law enforcement office, court setting, or an adult or juvenile correctional agency.
  • College-level course work in criminal justice, business administration, accounting, social science, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of criminal history document processing.
  • At least one (1) year of general office or clerical experience including keyboarding/typing, data entry, and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, Outlook, OBTS/OMNI.
