Job Description

Summary

This job involves working with people in prison to help them manage their cases, run group sessions, and decide if they're ready for release based on their behavior.

It requires guiding inmates through social, educational, and vocational challenges to prepare them for life outside.

A good fit would be someone with experience in counseling or corrections who is patient, observant, and committed to helping others change.

Key Requirements

  • Four years of full-time experience in individual and group counseling, guidance in social/behavioral/educational/vocational areas, or correctional/law enforcement duties involving reentry preparation and supervision
  • Equivalent of four years combining education and experience, where 30 semester hours of college coursework equals one year of experience
  • Ability to provide case management and facilitate group sessions for incarcerated individuals
  • Participation in disciplinary, classification, and pre-parole committee meetings
  • Skill in recommending releases based on offender behavior and attitude
  • Effective communication and documentation of observations to support case management
  • Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and endorsements within a period after hire

Full Job Description

Under general supervision, has sufficient understanding and experience to operate in a broad range of moderate to difficult professional case work involving incarcerated individuals at the Iowa State Penitentiary.

Provides individual case management and group facilitation.
Participates in disciplinary, classification, and pre-parole classification committee meetings.
Recommends individuals for release based on behavior and attitude.
Communicates and documents observations of offenders to ensure effective case management and consistent application of client change principles.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  1. Four years of full-time work experience in providing individual and group guidance and related counseling services in the areas of social, behavioral, educational, vocational and related program planning; or performing correctional, law enforcement, or jail administration duties involving community reentry preparation, pro-social behavior modeling, or supervision of individuals in work assignments.
  2. A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.

Additional Information
