Summary

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes using health information automated systems, verifying insurance benefits for patients, and providing billing or claims information to beneficiaries.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).

Major Duties:

  • Provide available health benefits programs information to eligible beneficiaries.
  • Interpret regulatory health information for eligible individuals.
  • Explain order of priority of entitlement to beneficiaries.
  • Counsel personnel on rights, benefits, or obligations available through the Tri-Service Medical Care (TRICARE) program
  • Provide detailed billing or claims information to beneficiaries.
  • Verify eligibility with healthcare agencies for medical services.
  • Troubleshoot billing problems for TRICARE beneficiaries or medical providers.
  • Report progress towards resolving outstanding billing problems to treatment facility management.
