Summary

This job involves checking building plans and documents to ensure they follow city rules and safety standards before permits are issued.

Full Job Description

Reviews applications, including submitted construction/building plans, specifications, reports and related documents for compliance with the City Code and all applicable construction codes and referenced standards.

Identifies plan discrepancies and areas of non-compliance. Prepares appropriate plan review records/correction lists, and approves compliant permit applications prior to permit being issued.

Provides technical assistance/information to inspectors, architects, engineers and builders regarding code interpretation, plan preparation and engineering submittals.

Salary: $74,743 per year.

(*$88,475 Salary is contingent upon successful completion of the MCP Certification)

Union: This position is included in the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, Local 2719 bargaining unit and will be filled in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

A current, valid Class C Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Operator's License at the time of filing application or prior to appointment, which must be maintained throughout employment.

Qualifying Requirements:Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position.

You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show two (2) years of full-time experience as an Architect or Engineer.

(Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or Engineering.

(See NOTE under the General Application Requirements section above regarding the verification of education/training.)EQUIVALENCY: Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above).

Additional Information Examines construction applications, drawings, plans, specifications and all related documents for compliance with the City Code, Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code and sound engineering practices.Performs plan review for new construction in accordance with the EPA’s MS4 permit requirements and the Stormwater Ordinance Title 13 amendments of city code.

Approves compliant permit applications.Consults with architects and engineers regarding code interpretations and ordinance requirements.

Provides information to the public regarding code and ordinance requirements.Consults with Department inspectors regarding construction issues encountered in the field.Provides technical assistance and training.Recommends revisions to codes, fire codes and/or Department rules and regulations.Acts as advisor to the Board of Standards and Appeals.
