Job Description

Summary

This role at the CDC involves using data science to analyze health information, build decision-making tools, and improve public health systems in real time.

Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computer science OR Bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science.

At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.

All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which must include the following experience: conducting data analysis to identify trends and support decision-making, developing innovative and effective solutions to analytical problems and communicating insights and recommendations to improve processes and outcomes.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

As a Computer Scientist (Data Scientist), you will: Apply advanced statistical, data science, and predictive modeling techniques to build, maintain, and improve on multiple real-time decision systems.

Lead the design and deployment of enhancements and fixes to systems as needed.

Recommend using innovate data science strategies for ongoing improvements to methods and algorithms that lead to findings, including new information.

Develop usage and access control policies and systems in collaboration with the IT security experts.
