Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a computer scientist to analyze data from tests of Navy undersea systems, like submarines and torpedoes, and to build and improve software tools that help evaluate how well these systems perform.

Full Job Description

The Secretary of Defense has ordered a department-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the DoD hiring freeze.

Offers of employment related to this vacancy announcement will not be executed until the position has an approved exemption.

You will serve as a Computer Scientist in the Systems Assessment Branch (Code 22300) of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Keyport.

TO QUALIFY FOR GS-12: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: As a professional computer scientist analyzing test and evaluation assessment data for the development of an undersea warfare system or related assessment tools.

  • You will ensure tools meet stringent functional requirements throughout their lifecycle, adhering to rigorous configuration management protocols.
  • You will manage and archive test data in databases, ensuring data integrity and accessibility for analysis and reporting.
  • You will collaborate with vehicle and systems representatives to ensure seamless compatibility and maintainability of toolsets.
  • You will apply data science principles, including database management and machine learning, to extract meaningful insights from complex datasets.
  • You will implement best practices for testing and validation to ensure tools are ready for operational implementation.
  • You will coordinate with technical design agents and customers on the development of analysis tools, aligning with applicable requirement specifications.
  • You will conduct in-depth analysis of classified data associated with undersea systems, adhering to strict security protocols.
  • You will prepare and support the development of quick-look evaluations and comprehensive analysis reports, providing timely assessments of results to customers.
  • You will develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring timely completion of analysis tasks.
  • You will perform special studies or projects to investigate current and historical in-water run data, providing assessments of results to customers.
  • You will develop specialized tools to examine non-standard datasets in support of non-traditional customer requirements.
