Summary

This job involves managing computer systems, local networks, and providing support and training for a logistics team in the Air Force.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-08, or equivalent in other pay systems.

Examples of specialized experience includes: Applying a wide range of computer techniques, requirements, sources, supply systems, operational policies, and procedures; utilizing computer equipment, internal computer processes, application/utility programs, and magnetic media; diagnosing and resolving problems with telecommunications, LAN, and WAN systems to carry out assignments that may require the adaptation of standard procedures and established practices to ensure a positive outcome; and implementing a wide range of analytical and diagnostic methods, procedures, and principles to identify system failures, take corrective actions to resume normal operations, and implement procedures to allow for partial use until problems are resolved.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible.

One year at the GS-08 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.

NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1.

Knowledge of DoD and Air Force automated data processing and networking standards, policies, and techniques. 2.

Knowledge of computer hardware and software systems and their interfaces; and other job control languages. 3. Knowledge of information processing sequences, controls, and procedures. 4.

Knowledge of facility environment and infrastructure to support computer systems, and to provide user support. 5.

Ability to use and maintain a computer system, equipment, and software; analyze computer network, software, and hardware problems and develop effective and economical solutions; and train users on new computer systems.

6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

Administers and maintains Logistics Readiness Squadron information systems hardware. Recommends selection of, installs, upgrades, and maintains software.

Assists the Logistics Readiness Squadron network security officer. Provides guidance, assistance, and training to customers.

Provides on-going technical advice and guidance to customers, both inside and outside of the immediate organization, in the operation and maintenance of systems hardware and software and a variety of other routine supply computer issues
