Examples of specialized experience includes: Applying LAN/WAN standards and equipment to the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of LAN/WAN components such as routers, hubs, switches, and servers; assisting in the maintenance of network services, the installation/testing of workstations and peripherals, and the instruction of customers on accessing network services; utilizing configuration/life cycle management concepts to identify network component capabilities; and implementing customer support principles when receiving, responding to, and ensuring the resolution of customer's problems.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR APPLICANTS WITH NO FEDERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-08 grade level or equivalent in other pay systems.
Examples of specialized experience includes: Applying LAN/WAN standards and equipment to the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of LAN/WAN components such as routers, hubs, switches, and servers; assisting in the planning and maintenance of network services, the installation/testing of workstations and peripherals, and the instruction of customers on accessing network services; utilizing configuration/life cycle management concepts to identify the need to upgrade or enhance network component capabilities in response to network problems/deficiencies; and providing guidance or training to customers on network use and maintenance to prevent problem recurrences and assisting more experienced specialists with resolving very complex problems.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible.
One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of DoD and Air Force automated data processing and networking standards, policies, and techniques.
Knowledge of computer hardware and software systems and their interfaces, higher level programming languages, and other job control languages.
Knowledge of information processing sequences, controls, and procedures to provide user support. Knowledge of facility environment and infrastructure to support computer systems.
Ability to use and maintain computer systems, equipment, and software; analyze computer network, software, and hardware problems; develop effective and economical solutions; and train users on new computer systems.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.
You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
