Basic Requirements for Computer Assistant, GS-0335-09: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes monitoring network systems to ensure proper operation of hardware and software systems, providing troubleshooting assistance, and utilizing automated systems for data tracking.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).

Major Duties:

  • Establish and manages user accounts and determines and maintains user privilege levels.
  • Perform daily system back-ups and upgrading of hardware and software as directed.
  • Use established computer techniques to identify and promptly resolve network-related problems within the organization.
  • Serve as project officer for the life cycle management of computer systems and software in the Medical Group.
  • Provide training and assistance and ensures information security and accountability for Medical Group computer equipment.
  • Perform system diagnostics, troubleshooting procedures, and identifies and resolves software and hardware problems.
  • Provide information for standardized metrics and data analysis functions.
