DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Houston Public Works - Houston Permitting Center is looking for a Community Service Inspector within the Community Code Enforcement Division (CCE). CCE works to improve quality of life tin Houston neighborhoods by reduction blight and substandard living conditions through city code inspections and enforcement. CCE administers the city's dangerous building demolitions an public hearings. In addition, CCE conducts residential property code inspections and enforcement addressing the following issues:
  • Overgrown lots
  • Dangerous vacant buildings
  • Nuisances on private property
  • Materials & appliances stored in public view
  • Junk motor vehicles & graffiti
  • Prohibited Yard Parking
The Community Service Inspector position performs inspections, enforcement of codes, ordinances and regulations. The candidate will have excellent communication and effective problem-solving skills to provide general information and customer assistance. Must be friendly, professional, and attentive to the needs of both external and internal customers and provide resolution to customers concerns and/or questions. Maintain a positive and proactive approach to the guideline and Division goals. Will collect date and requests from field investigations to process. Prepares written records of proceedings and well as original correspondence to customers. May perform other duties as assigned.


WORKING CONDITIONS
This position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as computers or records boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis. There are routine discomforts from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions. The position may involve routine exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solutions.

This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a High School Diploma or a G.E.D. certificate and up to 18 months of specialized education or training in the specific area or trade. May require a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One (1) year of experience related to customer service or an area of inspection to be performed is required.

Depending on the area of specialty, the position may require the experience listed above to be journey level, received after completion of an apprenticeship program.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.

Qualifications

Preference may be given to applicants with bilingual skill sent, previous INFOR experience/knowledge, and/or Microsoft Suite applications.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
