Summary

This job involves investigating and responding to reports of sewer system issues in Houston, such as overflows or blockages, by checking manholes, taking photos, and documenting problems to keep the public safe.

APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED FROM: ALL PERSONS INTERESTED Service Line/ Section: Houston Water/ Wastewater OperationsREPORTING LOCATION: 100 JaphetWORKDAYS & HOURS: Mon - Fri 7a.m - 4p.m.*Subject to changeDESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe first responder that investigates and respond to all service request generated from citizens, business owners and manhole monitoring alerts, related to collection system concerns.

Responsible for investigating, documenting, and responding to sanitary sewer overflows via opening manholes, pictures, emails, and asset management system.

Required to meet with the public, technical professionals, and businesses due to inquiries/ concerns.

May require responding to emergency calls and working longer shifts, including sleeping in the facility during an emergency.

Makes sure all collection system concerns are safe and secure, for the protection of the public. This position is required to drive to and from job sites.

WORKING CONDITIONSThe position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as folding barricades or manhole covers (up to 90 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.


This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or a GED certificate and up to eighteen months of specialized education or training in a specific area or trade.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One (1) year of experience related to customer service or an area of inspection to be performed is required.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving. (AP 2-2).

Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates who have a working knowledge of the IPS, GIS and/or have experience with Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic computer skills

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
