What you will be doing:Under close supervision, this position will assist in a variety of tasks with the Statewide Design and Engineering Services Bridge Section serving multiple roles including but not limited to: design assistant; bridge inspection assistant; hydraulic engineer assistant; and other duties as assigned.
Depending on the level of coursework completed by the College Intern there will be exposure to various components of bridge specific structural analysis utilizing various editions the AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications in concrete design, steel design, pre-stressed concrete design, and load ratings.
Travel within in the State should be expected on bridge and/or hydraulic inspection trips while being exposed to on-the-job training from bridge inspection team leaders.Our organization, mission, and culture:The Bridge Section’s focus is on bridge safety and providing exceptional bridge engineering services for the three DOT&PF regions.

Travel and field work associated with bridge inspections throughout the State is expected.Who we are looking for: Our successful candidate will possess the following competencies through any combination of education and/or experience:
Civil Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain facilities such as buildings, transportation systems, water and sanitary systems, and other public works systems.
Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
Design: Knowledge of conceptualizing, developing, producing, understanding, and using plans, models, blueprints, and maps, including the use of tools and instruments to produce precision technical drawings, working prototypes, components, or systems.
Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
Structural Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods related to the design and analysis of complex structures using a variety of materials. Structures may include aerospace systems or structures, and other determinate or indeterminate systems.

COLLEGE INTERN 1
Currently accepted, enrolled, and attending an accredited college in an undergraduate degree program while maintaining an academic load of at least six credit hours per semester (eight credit hours per quarter).

Appointment and retention in this class series is restricted to students actively pursuing an undergraduate degree program in an accredited college and maintaining an academic load of at least six semester (eight quarter) credit hours per semester (quarter).
Students who have completed spring semester courses and are enrolled in fall semester courses are considered to be attending college during the summer regardless of whether or not summer courses are taken.
COLLEGE INTERN 2Currently accepted, enrolled, and attending an accredited college in an undergraduate degree program while maintaining an academic load of at least six credit hours per semester (eight credit hours per quarter);ANDIn good standing with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher;ANDHave successfully completed training as a College Intern 1 or 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of coursework in the degree program.Special Note:Academic transcripts and/or tuition billings may be construed as proof of enrollment.Appointment and retention in this class series is restricted to students actively pursuing an undergraduate degree program in an accredited college and maintaining an academic load of at least six semester (eight quarter) credit hours per semester (quarter).Students who have completed spring semester courses and are enrolled in fall semester courses are considered to be attending college during the summer regardless of whether or not summer courses are taken.COLLEGE INTERN 3Currently accepted, enrolled, and attending an accredited college in a baccalaureate degree program while maintaining an academic load of at least six credit hours per semester (eight credit hours per quarter);ANDIn good standing with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher;ANDHave successfully completed training as a College Intern 2 or 56 semester (84 quarter) hours of coursework in the degree program.ANDCurrently enrolled in and attending upper division classes in a declared major related to the body of work to be performed.Special Note:Academic transcripts and/or tuition billings may be construed as proof of enrollment.Appointment and retention in this class series is restricted to students actively pursuing an undergraduate degree program in an accredited college and maintaining an academic load of at least six semester (eight quarter) credit hours per semester (quarter)."Upper division courses" means courses that are specialized, in-depth and advanced.
Such courses emphasize problem-solving, analytical thinking skills, and theoretical applications, with depth and rigor in a discipline's theories and methods; specialization in a particular field or profession; refinement of general education; and/or development of specific intellectual and professional skills.
Upper division courses are commonly identified in college catalogs as 300 level and higher.Students who have completed spring semester courses and are enrolled in fall semester courses are considered to be attending college during the summer regardless of whether or not summer courses are taken.COLLEGE INTERN 4Currently accepted, enrolled, and attending an accredited college in a baccalaureate degree program while maintaining an academic load of at least six credit hours per semester (eight credit hours per quarter);ANDIn good standing with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher;ANDHave successfully completed training as a College Intern 3 or 88 semester (132 quarter) hours of coursework in the degree program of which at least 12 semester (16 quarter) hours were upper division coursework in a declared major directly related to the assigned duties and responsibilities.
