This job involves working as a licensed psychologist in a county mental health department, where you'll assess patients using tests, provide therapy to individuals, groups, or families, and help plan treatment for those with mental health issues.
It's ideal for someone with a doctoral degree in psychology who enjoys direct patient care, crisis intervention, and collaborating with teams in a public health setting.
Spanish-speaking skills are required to better serve diverse communities in Los Angeles.

These positions require knowledge of abnormal, developmental, personality, and social psychology; theory and practice of individual and group psychotherapy; crisis intervention techniques; applicable legal and ethical professional standards; Federal, State, and local laws governing mental health services; principles of psychopharmacology and psychobiology; psychometric and statistical theories and methodologies; psychological research methods and experimental design; and the ability to establish positive and therapeutic relations with clients; conduct crisis intervention and make appropriate referrals; select, administer, and score various psychological assessments; design appropriate treatment interventions, evaluate results, and make modifications as needed; communicate effectively orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, co-workers, management, and representatives of community-based organizations.
Experience providing psychotherapeutic treatment to the mentally or emotionally ill.Experience conducting psychological research and studies.Experience collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.Experience supervising and instructing interns, residents or unlicensed clinical psychologists in the field of psychology.Special Requirement Information:In order to qualify, you must include a photocopy of the diploma, a copy of your official transcripts, indicating the field of study, or certificate with your application at the time of filing.
Additional Information EXAMINATION CONTENTThis examination will consist of an evaluation of training and experience based upon application information and desirable qualifications, weighted 100% and a qualifying Spanish/English proficiency test.
The proficiency test will consist of speaking, reading and writing.
Candidates possessing a valid Los Angeles County Language Proficiency certificate MUST attach a copy of the certificate to their application at the time of filing.
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher in the evaluation of training and experience and a minimum qualifying score in the language proficiency test in order to be placed on the eligible register.SPECIAL INFORMATIONPast and present mental health clients and family members are encouraged to apply.
Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
AVAILABLE SHIFT: Any VACANCY INFORMATIONThe resulting eligible register for this examination will be used to fill vacancies throughout the Department of Mental Health as they occur.
ELIGIBILITY INFORMATIONApplications will be processed on an "as-received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.
The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
