After gaining the requisite experience, employees may be eligible for career advancement to higher-level classifications.

One year of full-time clerical experience which may include typing, filing, providing information to the public, and general bookkeeping as typical duties.
Six months of this experience MUST be in a position where the PRIMARY job responsibility is clerical in nature and must include a wide range of qualifying clerical duties.
NOTES:City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours.
OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.
