The Department of Transportation is searching for a Clerical Assistant 2. This position provides technical and administrative support to the Regional Traffic Management Center (RTMC) Operator. The Clerical Assistant 2 performs a wide range of tasks requiring independent judgment, knowledge of RTMC operations, and the ability to coordinate administrative activities in support of traffic operations.

Requirements

As a Clerical Assistant 2, you will monitor real-time traffic conditions using closed-circuit television (CCTV), detection systems, weather monitoring tools, law enforcement communications, and other resources. You will receive, verify, and assess traffic incidents, roadway hazards, weather events, and planned/unplanned lane restrictions and determine incident severity and appropriate response actions in accordance with established protocols and standard operating procedures. Additionally, you will initiate and coordinate incident response activities with county maintenance, Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), and other stakeholders.


Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch (2:30 -3:30 PM).
    • This shift will be staggered with another at 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,108 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title); or
  • Graduation from high school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience in an emergency dispatch center, handling communications and emergency calls.
  • Experience with the operation and/or maintenance of Intelligent Transportation Systems such as CCTV, weather monitoring, digital messaging, or other ITS devices.
  • Experience working with NWS, NOAA, 911, local/state police, and municipal fire/EMS or any other Transportation Agency.

This position is subject to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum of understanding.
