In this role, you will support the Regional Traffic Management Center Manager with tasks related to the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) infrastructure in the Western Region of DOT, encompassing the design, construction, and maintenance of all ITS devices.

Assist RTMC Manager in improving the daily Operations of the Western RTMC. Assist RTMC Manager in daily duties related to the ITS infrastructure within the Western Region of PennDOT including the Design, Construction and Maintenance of all ITS devices.

Requirements

In this position, you will play a key role in the development and ongoing improvement of the Western Regional Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). This encompasses various technologies, including Closed Circuit Television, Dynamic Message Signs, Highway Advisory Radio Transmitters, Fixed Anti-Icing Spray Technology, Microwave Detectors, Fiber Optic Multiplexers, Network Switches, and other related hardware integral to the ITS within the District and the Western Region. You will collaborate with the contractor overseeing the Penn Lincoln Parkway Patrol Programs by evaluating their operations, addressing concerns, and resolving any issues that arise.

Additionally, you will supervise the contractor responsible for HOV Security during peak morning hours. Your responsibilities will also include updating the incident management database and providing timely reports to supervisors and other internal stakeholders. Furthermore, you will work closely with our partners and various Department Units to ensure the successful implementation of our Intelligent Transportation System.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time.

    In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

    If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Bridgeville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $69,203 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
  • Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
  • One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.


Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid driver’s license.
