Job Description

Summary

This role involves acting as the top advisor and manager for a high-level office in the Department of Defense, overseeing daily operations, supervising staff, and ensuring that critical defense policies on nuclear, chemical, and biological threats are carried out effectively.

It requires coordinating with various teams and stakeholders to support the vision of senior leaders in national security.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to NH-0301-03 level, managing a large agency or headquarters office with critical missions and diverse stakeholders

Full Job Description

The selectee will serve as the Chief of Staff to the Assistant Secretary of War for Nuclear, Deterrence, Chemical, and Biological Defense Policy and Programs (ASW(ND-CBD)).

In the role, the selectee will directly supervises subordinate ND-CBD Front Office staff. In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below.

You may qualify at the NH-0301-04 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the NH-0301-03 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to run a large agency or equivalent industry headquarters office responsible for critical missions with wide-ranging components and stakeholders; and lead and supervise personnel and organizations to achieve vision of senior leaders through timely action and effective follow-through Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following: Provide day-to-day management of the office to include task management; manpower and personnel; financial management and integrity; continuity of operations; space and facilities; correspondence and records; information technology; security; and other portfolios as assigned.

Provide advice, assistance and manage implementation of policies and procedures across component offices; develop, interpret, and implement new, existing or revised policies and procedures; ensures timely completion and follow-up on tasks across component offices.

Support the implementation of strategies to maximize employee potential to include fostering high ethical standards in meeting organizational goals as well as recruiting, retaining, and developing the talent needed to achieve a high-quality workforce with skills needed to accomplish organizational performance objectives.
