Base salary range: $123,041 - $159,950

Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This role acts as the right-hand advisor to the director of a government acquisitions team, handling daily operations, strategic planning, and policy analysis to keep procurement processes running smoothly and efficiently.
It involves leading staff, reviewing data, and providing expert advice on acquisition matters within the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
A good fit would be an experienced senior leader with strong organizational skills, policy expertise, and a track record of managing teams and improving operations in a federal or similar high-stakes environment.
This position is located in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Farm Production and Conservation (FPAC) Business Center (FBC), Acquisitions Division (AD).
The incumbent serves as the Chief of Staff (COS) to the FPAC Acquisitions Director and carries out a wide variety of difficult and important assignments associated with Acquisition and Procurement policy administration matters, pending legislation, and legislative proposals bearing on all AD responsibilities.

Time-in-Grade Requirement: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.

Specialized Experience Requirement For the GS-15 grade level: You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level or higher in Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service.
For this position, specialized experience is defined as: Overseeing the review and implementation of current processes/procedures to optimize and efficiency and productivity of programs and operations AND supervising and leading personnel to meet mission objectives.
Experience making decisions and/or recommendations on significantly changing or developing important policies or operations.
Experience identifying problems or issues requiring corrective action and recommends appropriate changes. Experience developing long-range workforce staffing plans to meet departmental needs.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
