Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping to run several parts of the court system in Anchorage, such as handling criminal cases, jury duties, and scheduling, while leading teams of staff through hiring, training, and problem-solving.

It also includes improving daily operations, working with lawyers and the public, and stepping in for the main clerk when needed.

A good fit would be someone with court or legal office experience who is organized, good at managing people, and comfortable handling sensitive situations professionally.

Personnel rules will be applied to determine step placement for the successful internal candidate.


This PositionAssists in managing and overseeing multiple court divisions, including Criminal/Traffic, In-Court, Jury, and District Court Calendaring, while supervising division supervisors through hiring, training, evaluations, and disciplinary actions.

Provides guidance on procedures, personnel, and operations, and coordinates support across divisions, stepping in as needed.

Analyzes and improves clerical processes, supports policy development related to personnel and case management, and serves as a liaison between the court, administration, legal professionals, justice system partners, and the public.

Performs statutory duties of the Clerk of Court in the absence of the 2nd Chief Deputy Clerk.

Responds to inquiries and resolves issues with professionalism and discretion, maintaining strong customer service and handling sensitive matters appropriately.

Participates in committees, contributes to policy decisions, coordinates with court staff across the district, and conducts complex legal and procedural research.

Assumes the responsibilities of the Clerk of Court when required and performs additional duties as assigned.


The Work Hours
Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. Work hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

NOTE: The required technical or professional legal work experience is met by service as a Court Case Manager 1, Court Case Manager 2, Court Supervisor, Clerk of Court, Chambers Judicial Assistant, or Chief Deputy Clerk with the Alaska Court System or similar legal work experience with another employer.
