Job Description

Summary

This job involves cleaning and maintaining college buildings and grounds, such as sweeping floors, sanitizing restrooms, emptying trash, and keeping outdoor areas tidy.

It also includes setting up rooms for events and responding to emergencies outside regular hours.

A good fit would be someone reliable with hands-on experience in housekeeping or similar maintenance work, who can follow safety rules and work flexible schedules.

Key Requirements

Full Job Description

Job Purpose:

The primary purpose of this position is to perform custodial functions to clean and maintain College buildings and grounds as assigned.

Job Functions:

Performs cleaning duties in offices, hallways, classrooms, lobby areas, elevators, and stairways including sweeping, mopping, buffing, vacuuming floors, rugs, carpets, and upholstered furniture, emptying wastebaskets and trash containers; cleans chalkboards and whiteboards; dusts furniture, fixtures, shelves, blinds & window seals; cleans walk-off mats.

Disposes of trash and waste-empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers.

  • Cleans restrooms by sanitizing sinks, toilets, urinals; sweeping, mopping, buffing, floors, empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers.
  • Empty recycled can/bottle containers. Cleans accessible interior and exterior windows at building entrances.

    Sweeps and cleans porches and walks, keeping the outside of buildings free of debris, spider webs, etc. Regularly monitors all areas for needed custodial and/or maintenance work.

    Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies.

    Monitors inventories in custodial closet and notifies supervisor of need for restocking cleaning, trash liners & restroom supplies. Attends training and safety meetings and other related meetings.

    Follows all safety policies and procedures. Assists with setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc. Performs other related duties as required.

    Respond to emergency calls outside of normal working hours and/or be available to work as support services for college activities such as commencement and other college hosted events outside of normal work schedule.

    Requirements

    Minimum: Experience in custodial, housekeeping or pest control work that is directly related to the area of employment.

    Qualifications

    Preferred: A High School Diploma and (2) years related work experience; or 10th grade education and (3) years related work experience.
