This job involves overseeing the maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, and equipment at a correctional facility, including planning daily tasks, handling emergencies, and creating preventive maintenance schedules.
It also includes supervising staff and inmate workers to ensure everything runs smoothly and safely.

Plan, develop, coordinate, implement and supervise the daily and emergency maintenance and repair programs for a level ii institution.
Develop maintenance plans and procedures for buildings, utility services, grounds, installed equipment, etc.
Determine requirements, set priorities, obtain required materials and equipment, and assign work.
Establish on-call procedures to respond to emergency maintenance and repair calls and ensure the work is promptly and properly performed.
Develop and implement preventive maintenance program for the institution.
Determine all items requiring periodic preventive maintenance and develop PM check list for each item.
Schedule and follow up to ensure that preventive maintenance is completed as required.
Develop plans and cost estimate, determine schedule, and obtain required materials, supplies, and equipment.
Select, orient and train new employees and inmate tradeworkers and evaluate their performance.
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
An associate's degree and professional experience directly related to the area of employment.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and 5 years’ professional experience related to the area of employment, one of which must be in a supervisory capacity.
Thorough knowledge of trades being supervised.
Prefer professional experience in the principles and techniques of facilities maintenance to include plumbing, general construction, electrical, kitchen equipment, and operation of heavy equipment.
