Basic Qualifications: Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

AND Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, which must include the following experience: coordinating biological projects within regulated laboratory environments, providing technical guidance to stakeholders on scientific study findings, and analyzing and interpreting biological data to support public health surveillance and research.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

As a Biologist, you will: Conduct biological research and laboratory work. Plan and manage scientific studies and experiments. Collect, analyze, and interpret scientific data.

Ensure proper handling, processing, and chain-of-custody for biological specimens. Maintain laboratory instruments and equipment to conduct tests and analyses.

Prepare scientific reports, charts, and publications to document experimental findings. Prepare and deliver written and oral reports in formal and informal settings.

Provide training in the use of laboratory equipment and procedures.
