We are looking for teammates who are:

What you will do:

You will conduct audits in the area of Bingo gaming operations and Tax-Exempt Organizations acting as sponsors of Bingo.


Primary job duties include:

  • Conducting audits of Bingo operations to determine compliance
  • Preparing reports which disclose the scope, issues, and results of the audit
  • Conducting audits of Tax-Exempt Organizations who hold a bingo license in SC to determine how distribution funds received from the Department are being used by the Distribution Audit Program
  • Conducting annual audits of Gambling Vessels to verify the accuracy of the monthly reports submitted to the SCDOR to determine compliance
  • Conducting announced, unannounced, and pre-license inspections of Bingo locations in S.C and providing an overview of the Bingo Tax Act during inspection.
  • Conferring with license holders and/or their legal representatives in regard to completed audits
  • Occasionally assisting in litigation of Bingo cases

Requirements

Either:

  1. A bachelor’s degree with multiple accounting courses (Transcripts required – attach to application or email to employment@dor.sc.gov) OR
  2. An associate’s degree and experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation/analysis


Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning.


Additional Requirement:

  • You must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Around 20% of your work will include field audits.
  • Occasionally inspections will need to be conducted on nights and weekends, when necessary.

Qualifications

  • 18 semester hours in accounting, auditing, or tax coursework (three of which may be in business law).
  • Considerable knowledge in Individual Income Tax and Exempt Organization training and experience
  • Working knowledge of South Carolina Laws and Regulations

  • Hours: Flexible hours may be available from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week).
  • Telework schedule: This position may be eligible to work remotely up to two days per week after one year of employment with SCDOR.
  • Office location: Depending on space availability, you may have the option to choose which SCDOR office you work in (Charleston, Myrtle Beach, or Beaufort).
