Job Description

Summary

This job involves mixing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks at a bar on a military base in Washington, D.C., handling customer payments, and keeping the area clean.

It's a flexible part-time role with no guaranteed hours, up to 40 per week, open to anyone 21 or older.

A good fit would be someone with bartending experience who is friendly, physically capable, and comfortable dealing with people in a busy setting.

About the position: This position will be assigned to the Slip Inn Facility on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C.

The work schedule is flexible with no guaranteed hours but could work up to 40 hours per week. Must be 21 years of age to serve alcohol. Who May Apply: Open to everyone.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience: Must have experience mixing alcoholic beverages for retail sale, which includes knowledge of correct proportions and mixtures to use in preparing beverages.

Must be able to recognize intoxicated or unruly patrons and to resolve the problem or seek assistance if needed. Must be able to follow cash handling procedures.

Must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing 5 to 15 pounds, pull and push objects weighing 10 to 20 pounds, and occasionally lift up to and over 40 pounds.

Satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must meet the appropriate minimum age requirement of 21 years old for working with and/or serving alcoholic beverages.

Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate and/or complete food handler's training. Must be able to communicate clearly with customers, and possess skill in dealing with the public.

Successful completion and favorable adjudication of applicable background investigation (Tier 1 Level) is required. Major Duties:

The purpose of this position is to mix and serve pre-mixed alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages from a limited service bar. Operates limited service bars.

Prepares a limited variety of alcoholic drinks by selecting proper premix and garnish. Serves beer, soda and wine. Serves patrons directly or delivers to waiter.

Receives payment, operates cash register, and makes and returns change to patrons or waiter. Sets up bar for operation and obtains cash bank. Maintains work area neat and clean.

Washes bar equipment, glassware, and utensils. Stocks service bars and assists higher-level bartender as required. May be required to prepare documentation for cash funds accountability.

Works inside with adequate lighting, heat, and ventilation. Subject to cuts, bruises, and chapped hands. Performs other related duties as assigned.
