This job is for a barber at the U.S.
Air Force Academy in Colorado, where you'll cut and style hair for customers using various techniques, keep the shop clean, handle appointments, and manage basic supplies.

About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Barber Shop at the Air Force Academy, Colorado. This position does include benefits .

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience: Satisfactory completion from a certified school of Barbering or Cosmetology.
If a graduate of a School of Cosmetology, the applicant must have actual experience as a Barber and worked in that capacity for at least two years.
Required to have a current state Barber or Cosmetology license.
Must have recent experience servicing all types of hair to include ethnic styles and fades(skin-tight razor fades on all ethnic hair types), flat tops, high and tights; and product usage and hair/scalp care.
Requires prolong periods of standing, bending, reaching, light lifting and dexterity of fingers and hands. Subject to shocks, burns, and exposure to skin conditions.
May be required to work an abnormal tour of duty. May be placed on force leave during shop closures for Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break.
May be detailed to other work during periods when the shop is not operational. Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 15 pounds.
This position requires the incumbent to satisfactory complete the applicable background investigation.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Major Duties:
In accordance with accepted techniques of the trade, as modified by local policy, cuts customer's hair to each individual's satisfaction.
Services all types of hair to include ethnic styles and fades (skin-tight razor fades on all ethnic hair types), flat tops, high and tights; and product usage and hair/scalp care.
Exercises tact and courtesy and works according to time schedules. In performance of the work, uses all instruments of the Barber trade.
Ensures that equipment is used in accordance with established procedures. Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner. Removes hair clippings, cleans chair, vanity and mirror.
Keeps the general area of the shop neat, removing trash, disposing of towels, straightening chairs, magazines, etc., and keeping the floor clear of debris.
Cleans, sterilizes and sanitizes all implements, tools and equipment used in accordance with established procedures. Answers the telephone and makes appointments.
Ensures that appointments are properly logged and that services are provided at scheduled time. In some instances, receives cash payment for services and is accountable for cash received.
Provides assistance in determining quantity and kinds of supplies needed and ensures needed supplies are available. May serve as alternate fund custodian. Performs other related duties as assigned.
