Job Description

Summary

This bailiff role in a family court helps the judge run daily sessions, manages paperwork and files, and supports court operations for cases like divorces, child custody, and adoptions.

It's an administrative support job, not involving security or enforcement duties.

A good fit would be someone organized, good with people from all walks of life, and comfortable using computers in a busy court environment.

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (HSE); Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Strong computer, communication, and organizational skills

  • Proficiency in updating case management systems like Incite and Odyssey

Full Job Description

The Bailiff provides assistance to the Judge and Court, assisting with conducting open court sessions and assists in the operation of the Court. This position is in the Court's Family Division.

Case types in the Family Divison include: Divorce cases; Paternity cases; CHINS; Protective orders; Juvenile Delinquency; Adoptions; Termination of parental rights. *This is not a security position*

Requirements

Assists with conducting open Court sessions.

Prepares pleadings and monitors court files for court sessions and/or the Judge's rulings.

Update files and the Court's case management systems, including Incite and Odyssey.

Assists judicial officers and staff during court proceedings.

Works within the automated queue system, processing information timely and efficiently.

Answers court telephones and responds to questions from court representatives and the general public.

Assists with the effective management of the Court calendar through confirmation of hearings with attorneys.

Assists with other duties and responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum of a high school diploma or HSE. Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree beneficial. Strong proven computer, communication and organizational skills required. Ability to effectively interact with diverse groups of individuals essential.

This is not a security position.

Bi-lingual skills in Spanish, Burmese or ASL a plus.

Salary enhancements for bi-lingual skills in Spanish, Burmese or ASL, as well as educational enhancements for an Associate's or Bachelor's degree, are part of the compensation package.

Marion County residency required within six months of the date of hire.
