Key Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of wage-earning experience in auto mechanics beyond a 3-year apprenticeship, or three years if no apprenticeship
  • Possession or eligibility for Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Instruction Certificate I or II in Auto Mechanics/Inspection/Technology
  • Eligibility for Vocational Intern Certificate or Emergency Certificate in the specified field
  • Strong communication skills to build effective relationships with students

Requirements

As a Automotive Maintenance/Repair Occupations Teacher, you will be responsible for training of inmate in the vocational area of automotive mechanics, and other closely related job skills.

Using theory and hands-on instruction you will help students develop job skills relevant to automotive maintenance and repair occupations.

You will also evaluate placement assessment results and adapt curriculum materials to meet the needs of students by choosing the best teaching techniques and approaches to use when presenting material.

This role requires effective communication and the ability to form effective working relationships to help students prepare for this career.

In addition, you will assign homework, submit final student evaluations, maintain inmate education records, and order classroom supplies, materials, and equipment.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Education equivalent to high school graduation and two years wage earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in the specified parenthetical; or
  • If there is no approved apprenticeship period for the specified parenthetical, education equivalent to high school graduation and three years of wage earning experience in the specified parenthetical.
  • Please Note: The specified parenthetical for this posting is Auto Mechanics/Inspection/Technology. The specific apprenticeship period for this parenthetical is 3 years.

Special Requirements:
  • You must be in possession of or eligible for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Instruction Certificate I or II for the specified parenthetical; or
  • You must be in possession of or eligible for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Intern Certificate for the specified parenthetical; or
  • You must be eligible for a Pennsylvania Department of Education Emergency Certificate for the specified parenthetical.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
