We are an independent office within the EPA that helps the agency protect the environment in a more efficient & cost effective manner.

We perform audits, evaluations, & investigations of the EPA to promote economy, efficiency, and to prevent and detect fraud, waste and abuse.

To be eligible for the recent graduates program, you must meet the following criteria: Completed a qualifying associate's, bachelor's, master's, professional, doctoral, vocational, or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution within two years prior to this announcement's closing date.

Veterans who were precluded from applying due to their military service obligation, begin their 2-year eligibility period upon release or discharge from active duty.

Eligibility for veterans cannot exceed 6 years from the date on which they completed their degrees (or certification).

Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours.

A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; or You must have a cumulative Grade Point Average of at least a 2.0.

Degree: accounting, business administration, finance, economics, public administration, public policy, public health, environmental studies, environmental policy, political science, or other related fields.

To qualify for the GS-05, you must posess: 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree or 3 years, 1 year general experience of which was equivalent to at least GS-4 To qualify for the GS-07, must posses: 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement or 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5 performing the following tasks: Assisting in analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to assess program development or execution for improving organizational effectiveness and efficiency; Experience gathering various types of data to analyze, draw conclusions, and communicate results; Assisting in developing written reports and written guidance in a variety of formats (e.g., narrative, graphs, charts, etc.) using a variety of software packages (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint); AND Compiling and analyzing from various sources of information/problems and present findings and recommendations.

or Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge.

Major Duties:

The EPA OIG is seeking Recent Graduates in the Office of Audit.

Positions are available in the following offices located in: Atlanta, GA Boston, MA; Chicago, IL Cincinnati, OH; Dallas, TX Durham, NC (Research Triangle Park) New York, NY Seattle, WA Responsibilities Ideal candidates for these positions are individuals who have graduated with an undergraduate or graduate degree program in auditing; or a degree in a related field such as accounting, business administration, finance, economics, public administration, public policy, public health, environmental studies, environmental policy, political science, or other related fields.

Duties for the GS-05: As a developmental or trainee auditor, the candidate facilitates team efforts and helps achieve team goals throughout an assignment and achieve directorate-level and OIG-wide goals.Participate in the design and development of a comprehensive approach to answer significant questions involving complex Agency wide programs.

Conducts routine assignments and assists with segments of more moderately complex assignments of various programs.

Identify areas where significant improvements in economy, efficiency, and effectiveness can be made in Agency statutes, regulations, guidance, policies, procedures, or practices.

Duties for the GS-07: As an entry-level auditor, the incumbent will gain the skills to conduct non-complex assignments and assists with selected aspects of more complex assignments targeting various programs carried out by the Agency, state agencies, grantees, or contractors; Develops skills in conducting audits to support QA strategic and annual goals; Assists in the effectiveness, efficiency, and economy of the programs and operations of the EPA and the U.S.

Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board; Learn to perform assignments targeting environmental program areas, such as water, air, hazardous waste, pesticides, pollution prevention, and research and development; and Develops technical skills in disciplines that are a part of the effective, efficient, and economical operation of environmental program areas.

Candidates will be considered on the basis of the applicability of their education to specific EPA OIG assignments.
