The Department of Human Services is seeking an experienced and professional Attorney Examiner to help us conduct administrative hearings in the Central/Administrative Region.

Requirements

In this position, you will perform supervisory and quasi-judicial work in the adjudication of appeals involving a broad range of DHS program regulations.

Your work will involve conducting and adjudicating recipient and non-recipient appeals in a variety of subject matters, as well as reviewing the work of Human Services Hearing Officers for conformity to established laws, policies and procedures.

Some of your duties will include conducting pre-hearing conferences and issuing subpoenas, Orders, and Rules to Show Cause. You will also rule on motions.

While in this role, you will need to effectively communicate to interface with appellants, attorneys, representatives, and agencies.

Additionally, you will conduct quarterly meetings, as well as track the status of case assignments.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Overtime as needed
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, upon successful completion of your probationary period or training.

    Work assignments will primarily take place in the office. Telework will be based on operational needs of the Bureau.

    In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

    If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of professional legal work which includes one year of trial work experience; and a Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school.

Special Requirements:

  • All positions require possession of a certification of current license and active admission in good standing to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.

Other Requirements:
