Summary

This job is for an entry-level or mid-level prosecutor in the Riverside County District Attorney's Office, based in Indio, where you'll handle criminal cases by investigating, preparing, and arguing them in court to seek justice for the community.

You'll also do legal research, negotiate with defense lawyers, and advise law enforcement on criminal matters.

The Office of the District Attorney seeks Deputy District Attorneys at the entry or second level to fill vacancies in Indio (located in Coachella Valley near Palm Springs).

The Riverside County District Attorney's Office seeks Deputy District Attorneys at the entry or second level to fill vacancies in Indio (located in Coachella Valley near Palm Springs). Incumbents are employed in the Office of the District Attorney and are considered deputies to the District Attorney. Under direction, incumbents will perform routine professional legal work in criminal or family support civil cases; to increase the breadth and level of legal experience; and to do other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Investigates, researches, and prepares cases for prosecution; presents and prosecutes cases in all courts of the county.

• Does legal research in specialized areas of criminal law; dictates correspondence and prepares reports; prepares briefs or opinions concerning the law as applied to matters within the jurisdiction of the District Attorney.

• Assists other deputies in the investigation, research, and preparation of the more complex cases.

• Interviews and advises law enforcement officers and the public in regard to the issuance of criminal complaints.

• Negotiates with defense attorneys regarding the disposition or modification of charges in specific cases.

• May give talks and lectures to law enforcement agencies regarding the legal and procedural interpretation of criminal laws.

• May present and prosecute cases before Appellate Courts.

• May coordinate the work of support personnel.

Qualifications

Deputy District Attorney I:
$43.27 - $53.64 Hourly
$7,500.00 - $9,297.98 Monthly
$90,000.00 - $111,575.76 Annually

License/Certificate: Candidates that took the California Bar Examination in July 2025 and are pending results or plan to take the California Bar Examination in February 2026 are eligible to apply for this position at this time. Ultimate eligibility for employment as a Deputy District Attorney is dependent upon receiving a passing score on the bar examination, receiving a positive moral character determination, passing the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination, and fulfilling all other requirements under the laws of the State of California and the Rules of the State Bar to practice law within California.
Deputy District Attorney II:
$48.79 - $65.03 Hourly
$8,457.65 - $11,272.67 Monthly
$101,491.82 - $135,272.09 Annually

License/Certificate: Active membership in the State Bar of California.

OPTION I

Experience: One year of experience at the Deputy I level with the District Attorney's office of Riverside County. (Certification of qualifications by the District Attorney may be substituted for up to six months of the required experience.)

OPTION II

Experience: One year of experience in the practice of law.

Salary is negotiable.

Other Requirements

Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required.
