Full Job Description

Serves as an AST, Technical Management within the Test Operations Division, you will be responsible for leading and providing oversight to a diverse group of engineers performing complex technical activities in support of propulsion testing and assigned facility.

This position will require interfacing with other organizations to coordinate work activities to minimize errors and avoid potential conflicts in successfully achieving assigned goals and objective.

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work.

The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement.

To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: Supporting or leading an engineering team in accomplishing complex, technical tasks and effectively communicating project status to organizational management; Performing operational processes associated with propulsion test activity; Providing expertise in performance of maintenance activity of mechanical/electrical equipment.

  • Responsible for the control and performance of operational activities that occur within their assigned facility.
  • Ensure technical systems at their assigned are operational and in proper configuration to support planned activities.
  • Ensure a safe, effective work environment is maintained for individuals working on their assigned facility and work to correct deficiencies as they are identified.
  • Coordinate and oversee daily work activities to ensure work tasks are completed on time and in a technically correct manner.
  • Implement technical system changes as required to support test projects and/or facility upgrade activities.
  • Assist in problem resolution and task completion through mentoring and guidance regarding propulsion test activities.
  • Serve as Test Director of assigned facility, with the responsibility for the control and performance of operational activities.
