Job Description

Summary

This job involves reviewing and ensuring the quality of plans for bridges and other road structures, helping update department policies, and training junior staff in engineering tasks.

It also includes checking permit applications and exploring new design tools.

A good fit would be someone with a few years of hands-on experience in engineering or construction who enjoys detailed technical work and mentoring others.

Manages and performs Quality Assurance reviews of bridge plans. Manages and performs Quality Assurance reviews of roadway structure plans. Assists with evaluation of aspects of Department structural policies and procedures. Assists with the development of standard structural drawings and details and specifications. Manages and trains junior engineers and engineering associates in various engineering and technical duties. Manages and performs reviews of structural elements for encroachment permits, shop plans, and other submittals. Assists in the evaluation and implementation of new software, technology, and other design aids. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and three (3) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.

The physical demands for the essential functions involves sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. May require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal business hours or respond to emergency situations.
