The Department of Environmental Protection is seeking to hire an Environmental Trainee to enhance our team. Requirements
In this position, you will undergo a 12-month training program designed to equip you with the skills needed to become an Air Quality Specialist. This training will combine structured lessons with practical experience, allowing you to develop your expertise. Your responsibilities will include monitoring compliance and enforcement activities, which involve helping to create and implement an inspection schedule for specific facilities. You will also support the Engineering team by providing essential background information for plan approvals related to new sources or control equipment.
Your role will require you to inspect air pollution sources and control equipment to ensure they comply with permit conditions and regulations, and you will recommend actions based on your assessments. Moreover, you will assist in planning and developing a schedule to collect necessary data for the Air Information Management System from the assigned facilities. This will involve gathering operating schedules, conditions, production figures, and detailed information about air pollution control equipment for each source of contamination. You will evaluate operational levels and actual emission rates for these sources.
In terms of enforcement, you will participate in planning and developing enforcement actions, proposing measures to ensure compliance, and utilizing all available resources to address issues promptly. You will also engage in enforcement actions related to any violations of the Department's Rules and Regulations.Interested in learning more? Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week.
In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.
If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Norristown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
- A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
