Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Admissions, the Admissions Counselor is responsible for promoting the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities in an assigned territory through presentations in schools and community organizations, as well as participation in festivals and conferences throughout the state. The Admissions Counselor assists the Assistant Director of Admissions with the management of assigned data and contacts in the application system. The Admissions Counselor will serve as the first line of communication between prospective students/families and the school. Schedule and attend schools in an assigned territory, along with community organizations, summer camps presentations. Process application materials, assist families with the application process, communicate with prospective students and families throughout the application season. Maintain student data through the school's application system. Attend conferences and festivals as assigned. Support Admissions communications and events as required. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

A bachelor's degree preferably in admissions programs, education, school marketing, public relations, or a related field.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace (G Suite).
  • Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be able to work variable hours and shifts, including some weekends.
  • This position requires frequent travel, including overnight travel. Must be available to travel around the state.
  • Travel accounts for approximately 75% of the fall semester, while 25% of the time includes cold calling schools and community organizations, as well as processing application materials.
  • Knowledge of the basic principles and theories of admissions practices and educational administration.
  • Knowledge of laws, policies and procedures affecting enrollment and retention. Knowledge of the arts as a field
    of study.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff and
    the general public.
  • Ability to identify, develop and implement strategies, programs, and activities that will benefit
    the campus community and increase enrollment.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree and work experience in a boarding school, high school. or collegiate environment.
  • Previous experience in admissions or student recruitment is preferred.
