Job Description

Summary

This temporary job involves providing basic office support for the Bureau of Land Management, such as handling mail, assisting with travel arrangements, and responding to inquiries about natural resources.

It's a short-term role limited to about 1039 hours per year, ideal for someone with entry-level clerical experience or relevant education who wants to gain government work experience in a Nevada office setting.

Key Requirements

  • One year of general clerical or office experience for GS-04, or equivalent education (2 years above high school)

This is a temporary appointment. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status and will be for a period not-to-exceed 1039 hours in a service year.

To qualify for the GS-04 level: You must possess one (1) year of general experience that shows the ability to do clerical, office, or other work related to the duties of the position.

-OR- Have 2 years of education above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the prerequisite, I will include a copy of my transcripts with this application.

-OR- Have a combination of Education and Experience To qualify for the GS-05 level: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: performing clerical administrative duties such as processing mail; drafting correspondence; performing records management; computer software knowledge or experience in data entry; customer service.

-OR- Education: Have completed 4 years of education above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the prerequisite, and I will include a copy of my transcripts with this application.

- OR- Have a combination of Education and Experience Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

Physical Demands: The work is typically sedentary. Some work may require periods of walking, standing, bending, or driving a motor vehicle.

The incumbent may frequently lift relatively light boxes, materials, and supplies and/or carry file folders, copied materials, books, and other similar materials.

Work Environment: The work is typically located in an adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated office environment.

The work environment may involve everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, mail distribution centers, meeting and training rooms, libraries, or motor vehicles.

Major Duties:

  • Performs a full range of administrative support functions and clerical duties in support of natural resources in accordance with prescribed policies and procedures.
  • Contacts are with internal and external customers, in person and in writing, to provide general natural resources information and/or response to customer inquiries.
  • Processes incoming and outgoing mail transactions which includes distributing mail to the appropriate staff member and assembling out-going materials.
  • Coordinates travel plan authorizations and vouchers, and audits post-travel documents.
  • Performs other administrative duties as assigned.
