The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Habitat is recruiting

for an Administrative Officer 2 located in Anchorage, Fairbanks, or Douglas, Alaska!


What you will be doing:

As the Administrative Officer 2 for the Habitat Section, the incumbent is responsible for performing a wide variety of administrative tasks that include preparation and submission of Habitat program’s operating and capital budgets, financial management and accounting, expenditure tracking, and administrative support functions such as procurement, inventory, personnel actions, payroll, and implementation of administrative policies and procedures.

The incumbent coordinates and oversees all administrative workflows for the Habitat Division.

The Habitat Section is responsible for the proper protection of the state’s valuable fish and wildlife resources and their habitats as the population and economy continue to expand. Habitat Biologist workload priorities include cataloging anadromous fish water bodies; reviewing development proposals (timber, roads, oil and gas, mining, hydro); issuing fish habitat and special area permits; and monitoring permit compliance. This position leads Habitat’s budgetary and administrative functions, including budget tracking, in support of staff across the state. The Habitat Section employs about 40 staff, including one Operations Manager, three Fish and Game Coordinators, many Habitat Biologists, two Program Technicians, and four administrative assistants, under the oversight of the Operations Manager and the Deputy Commissioner.

The working conditions you can expect:

This position may be filled in Fairbanks, Anchorage, or Douglas. If hired in Fairbanks or Anchorage, a private office will be provided; if hired in Douglas, a cubicle will be provided.

Little to no travel is expected for this position.

Providing information on budget and administrative procedures to Habitat managers will occur daily and you will be expected to take the lead to streamline work as needed.

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in

  • Organizational Awareness: Knows the organization's mission and functions, and how its social, political, and technological systems work and operates effectively within them; this includes the programs, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of the organization.
Equivalent to those typically gained by:

Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible experience providing administrative support to a business or organization, business administration, public administration, finance, banking, accounting, industrial relations, marketing, human resource management, logistics and supply chain management, or a similar business field.
